Accountability
Most people confuse accountability with punishment. They want to see you suffer publicly as proof that you understand what you did. But accountability was never about the audience. It was about the person I hurt. I acknowledged what happened. I accepted my role in it. I answered to her, not to a comment section, not to people who weren't there.
That's what accountability actually requires. Whether anyone believes that is outside of my control. And I've made peace with that.
So here is the definition:
- Accountability: The acknowledgment and acceptance of responsibility for your actions, decisions, and their consequences, including the obligation to report, explain, and be answerable to those affected.
